Most people assume that a glass roof is better than polycarbonate roof. Our 35mm thick polycarbonate roofs have fantastic levels of insulation. Your personal preference comes down to the amount of daylight you want coming into your conservatory and how clear you’d like the view to be looking outside either way we are here to help and can advise and show you all the available options.
Our standard roof uses a 35mm thick polycarbonate sheet which has the following colour choices
Clear 35mm polycarbonate stops 99% of UV rays so will stop the sun bleaching your furnishings allows 57% of light through
Bronze polycarbonate allows only 20% of light through
Opal polycarbonate actually (looks white) only allows 10% of light through.
Solar control polycarbonate only allows 5% of light through great for south facing.
Glass roofs choices- The glass roof allows a lot of light into your conservatory up to 76% clear polycarbonate remember allows 57% of light in so a glass roof will appear brighter but will also heat up more quickly as result of this. We can fit Pilkingtons solar control glass which allows 43% of light to pass through and making your conservatory cooler.
The best conservatory roof glass combines three important tasks.
Insulation or U value – The lower the U value the better the insulation of the conservatory roof we can install glass that will outperform a polycarbonate roof but still allows lots of light in.
Self Cleaning – Pilkingtons Activ range of glass all use a self cleaning action which is activated by both light and water to remove organic dirt on the outside and it works very well.
Anti Sun reflection- a high degree of solar control or reflecting the light may be preferred in certain locations to stop excessive heat build up.
